Advancing India–Uzbekistan Cooperation in Medical Education

An initiative to expand opportunities for Indian medical students in Uzbekistan was presented in New Delhi, bringing together Kokand University in Andijan, Uzbekistan, and Indian stakeholders with the facilitation of Dr. Rashmi Saluja.

The initiative reflects the growing potential for India and Uzbekistan to deepen cooperation in medical education and healthcare. Its vision is to create a high-quality, affordable and supportive educational environment for Indian students pursuing medical studies in Uzbekistan, while strengthening academic and institutional linkages between the two countries.

At the centre of the proposed initiative is the development of a dedicated 55-acre Indian Medical City in Andijan. Envisioned as an integrated academic ecosystem for Indian students, the project proposes to combine modern educational infrastructure with Indian academic guidance, experienced faculty and comprehensive student support.

Beyond medical education, the initiative has the potential to create a broader platform for collaboration in healthcare, academic exchange, skills development and institutional capacity-building between India and Uzbekistan.

The initiative is being advanced by the leadership of Kokand University and Dr. Rashmi Saluja, with support from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Ajay Swaroop. The shared vision is to develop a strong academic and healthcare ecosystem that creates opportunities for Indian students while contributing to deeper, long-term educational and healthcare cooperation between India and Uzbekistan.
