Strengthening India-Suriname Ties

A warm and distinguished farewell ceremony was held in honour of H.E. Mr. Arun Koemar Hardien, Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname to India, celebrating his tenure and the enduring relationships he cultivated during his diplomatic assignment in the country. The evening, hosted by Dr. Rashmi Saluja, brought together members of the diplomatic corps, ambassadors, senior representatives of international organisations, and distinguished guests, reflecting the spirit of friendship and cooperation that has continued to strengthen India’s engagement with Suriname and the wider global community.
The gathering was graced by representatives from Suriname, Timor-Leste, Sudan, Nepal, and Fiji, along with diplomats and officials associated with Zambia, UNESCO, Palestine, Comoros, Guyana, Türkiye, Belarus, Russia, China, Iraq, Bangladesh, Lesotho, and the Brazil Chamber. The presence of eminent personalities, including Dr. D.R. Kaarthikeyan, added further distinction to the occasion. In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Hardien expressed his appreciation for the warmth, friendship, and cooperation extended to him throughout his tenure in India. He also reflected on his engagement with Indian institutions and business leaders and expressed confidence in the continued growth of India–Suriname relations.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rashmi Saluja fondly recalled the cordial association shared with the Ambassador and appreciated his contribution towards strengthening people-to-people, institutional, and economic ties between India and Suriname. She highlighted the considerable potential for expanding cooperation across trade, investment, healthcare, natural resources, and other areas of mutual interest.
The evening concluded with expressions of gratitude and goodwill, celebrating not only the Ambassador’s diplomatic journey in India but also the lasting relationships and shared vision for deeper India–Suriname cooperation that will continue beyond his tenure.
